Welcome to the Cuttlefish Class page!

We are a Year 3 & 4 class.

Our class teacher is Miss Turton and our class teaching assistant is Miss Budd.

Learning activities Term 6

Our topic this term is ‘Waterworld – Rivers, Coasts and Oceans’

Grab your wetsuit! We’re going deep into an underwater world to learn about the journey of a river from source to mouth. We will learn about different rivers here in the UK and environmental issues due to pollution and flooding. We will study coasts and features of coasts too. Why not head to your local aquarium and learn about life in the ocean?

Our core value this term is being proud.

Our main texts this term are ‘Song of the Dolphin Boy’ by Elizabeth Laird, ‘Once Upon a Raindrop’ by James Carter and ‘The Drop in My Drink’ by Meredith Hooper. We will write explanation texts about the water cycle and the journey of a river. We will be writing a persuasive letter about ocean pollution and a story with a dilemma.

In science lessons, we will be learning about all living things, classifying groups of animals and finding out about their features.

Year 3 and 4 Target Tracker Statements

  • Take turns to make plans and predictions before reading: ‘I wonder if… what do you think?’ ‘You think… Oh, I thought…’
  • Recap to check ideas and understanding as your child is reading: ‘So, you think that…’ ‘Did you expect…to happen?’ ‘Why do you think that happened?’
  • Use encouragement and praise to keep children engaged in reading: ‘What brilliant ideas…let’s see what happens.’ ‘You thought so carefully about... What might happen now?’
  • Share prior knowledge and past experiences that link to what is being read: ‘Have you learnt about…at school?’ ‘Do you remember when we watched…and found out about…’
  • Tune-in and listen to your child – be curious about their interests: ‘I didn’t know you knew so much about…’ ‘I love reading stories about...with you.’

At school we use the Reading Rainbow to give children a reading focus (a lens to read with) and sentence starters to answer questions.
