Safeguarding children is the action we take to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined in Working Together to Safeguard Children: A Guide to Inter-Agency Working to Safeguard and Promote the Welfare of Children (March 2015) as:
- protecting children from maltreatment;
- preventing impairment of children's health and development;
- ensuring that children grow up circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
- taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Rye Community Primary School will ensure that our school will safeguard and promote welfare of pupils and work together with other agencies to ensure that our educational establishments have adequate arrangements to identify, assess and support those children who are suffering or likely to suffer harm. We expect all colleagues and volunteers to share this commitment.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our ‘Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy’ which can be viewed in the ‘Policies’ section of our website. We are equally committed to promoting the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. In doing so, we provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding to play a full and active part in society.

Safeguarding Working Party
The Safeguarding Working Group has a remit to assist the trustees to fulfil their oversight responsibilty in relation to safeguarding and to provide a forum for the Designated Safeguarding Leads to bring forward issues for discussion.
