RNLI Pebble Painting

The Y6 topic for this term is ‘Storms and Shipwrecks’, so the children have been looking at the Mary Stanford Lifeboat tragedy.  This topic has really resonated with our children, many of whom are related to or live in Rye Harbour, where the brave men who lost their lives lived.

We wanted to be creative in the remembrance of the event.  We have looked at local news reports from 1928 and playscripts for acting.  Along with the local community, we have painted pebbles depicting nautical designs such as, the Mary Stanford,  the number 17 for the lives lost and the RNLI who continue to risk their lives for others today.  These pebbles will soon become a colourful pavement, a vivid reminder, with a grand opening on 2nd November at 11.00a.m.

We are delighted to be involved with this project and thank KT Bruce for making this all happen!
